Plot Summary: While most domestic media outlets focused on news linking the Vice President and several cabinet members to high-ranking Russian government officials, 'Capitol TV's' Melody extensively covered the President's abortion story. Claire retaliated, condemning those who exploit personal privacy for political gain. She stated that the termination of the pregnancy was due to fetal developmental issues. Claire delivered her statement calmly, showing no remorse despite her lie. Claire's all-female cabinet also garnered significant media attention, with Jennifer's appointment as acting Federal Prosecutor being a crucial move. All accusations against Claire or Frank were dismissed, and the hearings were dropped. Claire pressed her advantage, meeting the confined Jane in a safe house. Jane's network was dismantled, and having learned Claire's methods, she dared not cause trouble. When Mark sought help again, Jane almost pleaded with him to resign. Reluctant, Mark still wanted to convene a hearing, but Jane knew he had no chance of winning and regretfully hung up the phone. Unable to persuade Mark, Jane nervously went to the Oval Office to explain to Claire. To atone for her actions, she revealed a secret: years ago, Congressman Cole had an affair while his wife was pregnant, and when the mistress became a persistent problem, Mark cleaned up Cole's mess. However, due to excessive pressure, the mistress committed suicide by jumping into a river. Claire was pleased with Jane's defection, but she also knew the secret Jane had withheld: Jane had helped Durant escape. The Russian Federal Security Service had already located Durant, and his whereabouts were known to Claire. Upon hearing this, Jane broke into a cold sweat, her fear intensifying. Mark made a desperate gamble, hoping to pull strings to secure the Federal Prosecutor position, or at least convene a hearing. But then, Capitol TV, seizing the opportunity, began broadcasting comments linking Mark to high-ranking Russian officials, with Melody's rhetoric becoming even more aggressive. Bill and Annette were distancing themselves from Mark, declaring their stance. Claire knew her objective was achieved. She took this opportunity to promote the implicated Cathy to official press secretary, ensuring she wouldn't speak out of turn again. Then, Claire reduced Cathy's public appearances and personally hosted press conferences for a period. Mark believed he still held Meyer's body, a trump card against Claire. However, Claire now possessed the incriminating information provided by Jane and was no longer worried about any waves Mark might make. Bill, whose health was declining in the hotel, still managed to meet with Congressman Cole. His real intention was to contact Doug, as only Doug knew how to defeat Claire. Cole needed Shepherd's support, meaning Doug, if he wanted to return to the White House, would have to cooperate with Bill to oust Claire. But anything that could destroy Claire could also destroy Frank, which Doug absolutely could not accept. Bill was already losing ground under Claire's assault, and unexpectedly, another bomb planted by Claire exploded. Duncan discovered his true parentage: his birth mother was Annette's maid, living near Washington D.C. To comfort her son, Annette wanted Bill to reveal the truth of that year. But Bill preferred to disown Duncan rather than admit to the paternity debt from a one-night stand. Annette and Duncan indignantly left the hotel, abandoning Bill. Bill's nightmare was not over. That night, Doug came to the Oval Office and presented Claire with a file. This was former Herald editor Tom's investigation into the refinery explosion, containing emails and meeting records proving that the Shepherd Group knew a large-scale biochemical disaster endangering lives was possible but failed to take preventative measures. The Department of Justice could use this information to prosecute the Shepherd Group and CEO Bill for negligent homicide, preventing Bill from causing further trouble. After handing the documents to Claire, Doug also made his stance clear: Claire did not belong in the White House. The price of obtaining these documents from Tom was revealing Frank's secret, a secret that could also destroy Claire. Before Tom completed his investigation and revealed it to the world, Claire had best find a way out for herself. Doug did not realize that Claire had long been prepared. Tom, Durant, and Jane would not survive the night, Bill would go to jail, Mark was besieged, and Doug alone was powerless. Moreover, Claire had a protective charm: Frank's unborn child in her womb. The loyal Doug would never harm this child and its mother.
