Plot Summary:Frank prepares his next speech for New Hampshire aboard Air Force One. Claire's departure has left him distracted and unable to focus. At this critical juncture, his wife's absence will surely be attacked by other candidates. How can someone who can't even manage their marriage be fit to govern a country? Chief of Staff Doug Stamper shows excellent executive ability, silently enduring Frank's outbursts without complaint. Before the media discovers the truth, Frank accelerates his campaign activities in New Hampshire, trying to avoid any mention of his wife. His speeches remain passionate, so much so that the audience doesn't even notice Claire isn't by his side. The official response is that the First Lady went to Dallas, Texas, alone to prepare for the primaries, but this explanation won't hold up for long. Frank decides to send Doug to Dallas to solve this tricky problem. Claire is currently staying at her father's farm in Texas. She hasn't been in contact with her mother since her father died. For years, her mother, Elizabeth Hale, has had reservations about Frank, which is why Claire has been reluctant to contact her. Frank finishes his day's activities, returning exhausted to his hotel room. The TV is broadcasting Republican primary news, with New York Governor Conway, one of the candidates, significantly leading other candidates. Thinking of his own lag behind Dunbar and his wife's betrayal, Frank is frustrated. While preparing his next speech, Frank falls into a deep sleep, dreaming of a violent fight with Claire, where they hurt each other. This might be a reflection of their real-life situation. Claire seeks out Democratic consultant LeAnn Harvey. LeAnn is highly capable in campaign planning, and Claire isn't looking for her help with Frank's Texas primary campaign, but rather to prepare for her own campaign for the 30th district (Dallas) congressional seat. Just as Frank and Doug are meticulously guarding against the real reason for Claire's departure from being exposed, White House press secretary Seth Grayson, to secure his own future, leaks the news of Frank and Claire's marital troubles to Dunbar. Major media outlets quickly receive the leaked information from White House sources, and news of the First Lady flying to Texas after an argument with the President is everywhere. Frank is extremely angry about this sudden development and orders an investigation into the source. In a conference call with his chief of staff and press secretary, no useful leads are found. However, Doug has already thought of a remedy. To be safe, Doug asks Seth to hang up. His solution lies with Claire's mother, Mrs. Hale. When Claire returns home, Doug hands her a document containing Mrs. Hale's medical records. It turns out that Mrs. Hale has been battling intermittent lymphoma for years, and radiation and chemotherapy have gradually weakened her body. This is the remedy: using her mother's illness to stop media rumors. LeAnn also supports Frank's approach on this point; given the situation, Claire demands that Frank no longer interfere with her campaign work, while Frank demands that Claire must attend the State of the Union address in two weeks. After reaching an agreement, Claire walks towards the main entrance. Major media reporters have already gathered at the entrance, and a brief press conference transforms the scandal of a marital dispute into a show of filial devotion. After this storm subsides, Claire returns to her mother's room, watching her mother put on a wig in front of the mirror, and her heart aches, tears flowing. She is sad not only for her mother but also for herself. She wants to leave Frank and build her own career to prove her capabilities. Mrs. Hale understands her daughter's feelings at this moment, rising to embrace her. She is determined to help Claire, to prove that her daughter's abilities are no less than Frank's.
