Plot Summary:With the Louisiana nomination, Catherine Durant also entered the Democratic candidate list. If Catherine takes too many votes, or even supports Dunbar, coupled with the variable of superdelegates, Frank will not get a majority. Frank wants to stop this situation from developing further, so he announces his return to Washington to meet with the national security team, with Secretary of State Catherine accompanying him. Due to the absence of both presidential and vice-presidential nominees, party convention chairman Pat Whitaker, under pressure from Frank, can only announce a suspension of voting until Frank and others return. To meet with Catherine, Frank doesn't hesitate to hold a national security meeting on Air Force One. Catherine can no longer avoid it and simply lays out her cards: either Claire transfers her votes to Catherine, or Catherine will throw the convention into chaos. Frank also decides to cut the Gordian knot and deal with Catherine. He confesses to Catherine's face that he killed the two men, and that the corruption and murder mentioned in Lucas's will were indeed true. Catherine is horrified by Frank's distorted face. Suddenly, Frank bursts into laughter, as if everything he said before was just a joke. Between reality and illusion, Catherine's spirit is completely broken by Frank. Claire and Thomas return to the farm in Dallas as planned and see Claire's gravely ill mother. Mrs. Hale can't even swallow the simplest things, and the pain has made her lose the courage to live on. She begs her daughter to agree to euthanasia; her death can provide a reason for Claire to return to the convention, and her death can also gain more sympathy votes for the grieving Claire. This is the last help she can offer her daughter. Claire sheds tears for her mother for the first time from the bottom of her heart. Tom Hammerschmidt, by investigating Meacham's travel records, gradually tracks down Daniel Lanigan, who laundered money for Raymond Tusk. He provides leads to Dunbar's team. When she sees the results of Tom's investigation into travel records, she is greatly inspired and gives Tom the next lead to investigate: Remy Danton. Frank and Claire both return to Atlanta, and the party convention continues to vote for nominee candidates. Before the convention begins, Catherine takes the stage to speak. She first offers her condolences to Claire, then publicly announces her support for Claire's vice-presidential bid. Amidst the cheers of the crowd, Claire takes the stage. She had once been distant from her family, but her mother's illness made her realize the preciousness of family. Similarly, nearly losing Frank made her realize the importance of marriage. She is willing to entrust her trust to Frank and fight together for the future of America. The entire speech was crafted by Thomas, full of family values, which stirred the entire party convention. Through an oral vote by the entire floor, Frank and Claire officially become running mates, securing the presidential and vice-presidential nominations.
