Plot Summary: Although the bill passed, Bill remains very uneasy about Claire. He believes Claire stole the presidency, and because of his physical condition, he cannot run for election. So, he plans to use various methods to force Claire to comply, ensuring more bills pass in the future. This puts Annette, who has known Claire since childhood, in a difficult position. As a woman, she doesn't want her brother to use dirty tricks against a sitting female president. Claire is currently in the Oval Office meeting with Supreme Court Justice candidates. Judge Vincent of the Ninth Circuit Court babbles on, but Claire isn't paying attention. Last weekend at the Lofty Club, Claire had "accidentally" met Judge Vincent; it was clear he was Bill's pawn to be placed on the Supreme Court. Vincent could see the President's impatience, but he didn't care; he was confident of his Supreme Court nomination. After dismissing Judge Vincent, the next meeting is with former Secretary of State Durant. Durant received several job offers after leaving the White House, but she had an unfortunate fall and still occasionally experiences dizziness and photosensitivity. Claire looks into her eyes, fully aware that Durant has also been bought by Shepherd and will surely testify in court. If Durant testifies, it will not only affect Claire but also the late former President Frank. On this matter, Doug and Claire agree: it's necessary to sever this last link to Frank, and the best way is to make it appear as a complication from the fall. After entrusting the task to Doug, Claire attends a museum opening and unexpectedly sees Nazeer, an intermediary for the Caliphate in the US. Nazeer, acting as a lawyer, conveys a message from his client, asserting that Claire's deployment of troops to Syria is to seize territory and stifle Syria's future. If troops are not withdrawn, there will be terrible consequences. In reality, the Caliphate is barely clinging to life, and Claire won't be swayed. But Nazeer's appearance reminds her of another person, Jane, who is adept at making deals between governments for profit. Jane has exceptional political acumen and is very familiar with government officials, including Durant. Jane never misses an opportunity for personal gain. When Durant saw Jane, she was terrified and ran away. But what was coming couldn't be avoided; that same day, Durant was forcibly taken from her home, and when she was found later, she had died from an embolism formed after her fall. Claire called Doug that evening to express her thanks; both harbored their own ulterior motives and calculations. Claire doesn't trust Doug and still has Nathan monitoring him. Doug hasn't been idle these past two days; he met with Congressman Cole, also with Tom, who resigned from The Herald due to dissatisfaction with his new boss Duncan using him as a pawn, and even asked Nathan about Frank's cause of death. Frank's autopsy report stated an overdose of liver medication, and given Frank had received a liver transplant, it was classified as an accidental death. Nathan also gave Doug LeAnn's investigation report, confirming LeAnn was on the phone with Frank before her car crash. Nathan reported all these details to Claire. Mark, as an intermediary between Shepherd and Claire, feels increasing pressure. Supreme Court justices serve for life, a tenure far longer than the president's, and are considered a continuation of presidential power. Claire won't easily give the nomination to Vincent, and Bill is equally determined to secure that spot. Mark's mediation efforts are now exhausted, and Claire decides to negotiate directly with Annette. Coincidentally, Jane obtained some incriminating material: Duncan was arrested for drug use while in prep school and later used money to buy his way out of trouble. When Claire threatens Annette with her son, the political issue turns into a personal feud, and Annette no longer shows any mercy. Even Mark's efforts to salvage the situation are seen by Annette as betrayal, leading to a complete rupture between Shepherd and the White House.
